37 : HOMOSEXUALITY VERSUS ADULTERY: WHICH IS THE WORSE AND HOW?

In Islam, adultery (between men and women) is a major sin and therefore you are forbidden from coming close to this. Homosexuality (between members of the same gender) is also a major sin. However, by comparison it can be arguably proved as below that homosexuality is worse than adultery.

(i) During prophet Lut (a contemporary of Abraham), the Angel Gabriel appeared in human form to break the news of immediate destruction of his community and told him to move to a safe place. But his homosexual neighbors, without knowing the real identity of the Angel, showed sexual attraction for the Angel who looked like a nice-looking boy. An embarrassed Lut tried to dissuade them by offering beautiful girls instead. He knew full well that their sexual union with those girls could constitute a sin of adultery. But he chose such prospective adultery as a lesser evil than homosexuality. The Quranic account of this fact without any condemnation of Lut's offer for girls the above way points to the prospect of sodomy as worse than adultery.

(ii) Logically speaking, if adultery makes one sin due to obscenity, homosexuality counts double sins: one for obscenity and the other for using sex organs in violation of natural order as God did not mean partnership between pairs of males or females.
