Improving The Muslim Performance (Aamal) Standard.

26: IMPROVING THE MUSLIM PERFORMANCE (AAMAL) STANDARD

The God is the Final Judge to make a decisive evaluation of your conduct involving Dos & Donts. However, we can use His criteria presented in His Holy Quran to assess if your certain action is good or bad. This writing focuses on the performance standard of average Muslims in order to figure out if and what areas they are deficient in. Needless to say, they have the comparative advantage over other people as they follow monotheistic tradition of one God and they have before them most detailed moral teachings of the Quran and Hadith (the Prophets tradition). Now we turn to the question if they have absolute advantage in doing good deeds which otherwise means if they are doing enough of what they are supposed to do for meeting Gods standard. Apparently there is no totally satisfying answer, particularly based on what God said My righteous servants will inherit the earth (21:105). Since the leadership of the world that once existed for the Muslims during and after medieval period is now gone, we cannot escape the logical conclusion that the performance of average Muslims falls behind Gods standard. Now follows an analysis broken up into 3 types of performance along with subjective scoring:

(Type 1) External Deeds (Score A): It appears the average Muslims are doing quite well in visible types of actions like wearing beard, cap or long flowing robes, decorating their rooms with pictures of holy places or Quranic quotes, filling their speech with Islamic/Arabic words etc. Despite some risk of public show, these deeds can play an inspirational role as well as showcase the strength of Muslim community.

(Type 2) Ritualistic Deeds (Score B): The average Muslims are not doing badly in ritualistic deeds (inclusive of the Five Pillars) like prayer, fasting, etc. Mosques are full of worshippers particularly on Fridays, lots of boisterous preparations are out there in Muslim families during Ramadan and so on. These deeds help to recharge your soul and thereby inspire your good deeds.

(Type 3) Core/Practical Deeds (Score C): Compared to the above 2 types, the average Muslims seem to perform poorly in core type of actions that include among many others: standing by truth and justice, opposing injustice and oppression, promoting Islam and praying for the Muslims, undergoing sacrifice and patience, aligning thoughts and words with deeds, honoring words, promise and trust, strictly avoiding physical or mental harms to others, instead helping others with money, advice and hands, ensuring safety of other women and others wealth, giving priority to avoiding all major sins (Donts) and performing essential deeds (Dos) and doing all the above only for the pleasure of Allah and not mainly for personal gains etc.

While the above (3 types) classification has some overlapping problems, but on overall evaluation, the type 3 appears to be exceedingly important as it fills almost 90% pages of the Quran while the type 2 rituals are mentioned therein for limited frequency and the type 1 does not have any direct mention in the Quran. Therefore, if the Muslims can make up their deficiency in type 3 deeds, they would profit substantially in both phases of lives and they will be good role models for other people.
